Our October 17th, dinner meeting speaker with be Gary Bulla who will instruct us fly fishing in Baja Mexico.

Gary grew up on the beaches of the Southern California coast, His father took him camping and fishing once a month as a kid and his mother was an avid saltwater fisher. She was a member of the Newport Lady Anglers and even took trips to Baja to fish in the 1960’s. Gary found salt-water fly fishing to combine his long-time love for the ocean and his passion for fly fishing with the convenience of having fish right at his back door.

n 1989, Gary began expeditions camping on Baja’s Magdalena Island the southernmost bay where gray whales migrate to give birth to their young. He brought a fly rod and he became astounded at the incredible variety of fish that were available in the waters of Baja.

He now spends spring, summer and fall hosting and guiding all inclusive fly fishing trips at Punta Arena/Cerralvo Island (in the Sea of Cortez) and other international destinations.

Gary’s “Gremmie” surf fly was featured in California Flyfisher magazine, and has become a standard for surf fishing in California. His Papagallo and Tuna Tux series are standards in the waters of Baja and was featured in Tony Lolli’s book “Go-to Flies”.

When Gary is not working the salt he is at his home and in his woodworking studio in Ojai, California.

A President’s Dinner Choice, for $25, will be served with a Bartender serving beer and wine drinks for a $5 donation.

Washington Fly Fishing Club — Covid Protocol

The worldwide Covid pandemic continues, even if severity and duration of the illness may be reduced.  Our Club has a large number of members and guests who are part of the vulnerable, high-risk population.  If you are experiencing any symptoms that could be Covid, runny nose, sore throat, cough, any other symptom, please do not attend the meeting or event, even if you believe the symptoms are of a mere cold or allergy and even if you test negative.  Please do use the Zoom link, when provided.  If you have previously paid for the meeting or event, and decline to attend because of symptoms, the Club will gladly refund your money.
