Our June 20th, dinner meeting speaker will be Molly Semenik who will instruct us about Hauling casting. Prior to our meeting Molly will be at Luther Burbank Park, at 2040 84th Ave SE Mercer Island  WA 98040, demonstrating hauling, near the parking lot area.  All are welcome.  You can come and watch or bring your fly rod and practice your hauling.  Molly will be there at 4:00pm.  We will cast until 5:00pm and then head over to the VFW for Wet Fly.

Molly Semenik was born and raised in Michigan. She fondly recalls the day when, at the age of fourteen, her father presented her with his prized Orvis bamboo rod. When Semenik moved to Utah in 1979, she brought the rod along and spent the next several years fly fishing in western fresh water.

She has been teaching since the 1980’s which has taken her all over the world;  in both warm and cold waters, in private settings with one or more students, and in demonstrations at national fly fishing shows. 

Molly became a Federation of Fly Fishers master fly-casting instructor in 2006, cofounded the Yellowstone Fly Fishing School with Matt Wilhelm in 2006, and two years later became a certified outfitter in the state of Montana. She was elected to the Casting Board of Governors of the Federation of Fly Fishers in 2010. She is FFI single handed Certified Casting and Master Casting and Two-Handed Casting Instructor.

She specializes in introducing women to the sport in a fun, professional, and encouraging way; she believes that “when a woman can tie her own knot, she has started down the path of independence.”

Molly lives in Blaine, Washington.

Washington Fly Fishing Club — Covid Protocol

The worldwide Covid pandemic continues, even if severity and duration of the illness may be reduced.  Our Club has a large number of members and guests who are part of the vulnerable, high-risk population.  If you are experiencing any symptoms that could be Covid, runny nose, sore throat, cough, any other symptom, please do not attend the meeting or event, even if you believe the symptoms are of a mere cold or allergy and even if you test negative.  Please do use the Zoom link, when provided.  If you have previously paid for the meeting or event, and decline to attend because of symptoms, the Club will gladly refund your money.
