The June 21st WFFC Dinner Meeting will be at the Mercer Island VFW Hall with Lynda Mapes, author and Seattle Times environment reporter, for a discussion of how we are doing on salmon recovery in Washington, dam removal, and the state of the endangered southern resident orcas. She will bring us up to date on the current news, and what’s ahead for these crucial species in our region. Her talk will be zoomed out to the membership who will not be attending her in person presentation.
Lynda is an author and reporter whose work has won multiple national and international awards. Her most recent book, Orca Shared Waters, Shared Home, looks in depth at the root causes of the decline of this cherished population of orcas, one of the oldest and most intelligent societies in the animal world. Orca, published in June, 2021, was the winner of the National Outdoor Book Award for science and nature writing. Lynda lives in Seattle.
A President’s Dinner Choice, for $25, will be served with a Bartender serving beer and wine drinks for a $5 donation. The meal will be Mexican, make your own tacos.
